Singapore is a very common stop over for flights from the UK to Asia/Australasia and is a place, which is so often overlooked as just that – a transit stop over.

However, once you make it out of the city’s exceptional airport hall, you’ll see why it would be crazy not to extend your stop over for a couple of days of exploration.

Here’s my guide to spending 2 days in Singapore.

""

Day one

Catch a train to the Quay at the waterfront to get a taste of Singapore’s immaculate skyscrapers, oddly shaped buildings and lavish shopping malls (the Marina Bay Sands mall has a gondola floating through it)!

Start by the lion fountain and loop your way around the waterside being sure to look up at the towering buildings above you.

Next, hop back on the train to Orchard Road. This area is all about the shopping however, it also has some great food courts for those who aren’t too keen/or rich enough to shop.

Mooch around the exuberant shops before heading to Takashimaya Food Village for some lunch.

You’ll be spoilt for choice with food stalls from across Asia.

""

Once you’re sufficiently full, walk a little further down the street until you arrive at Emerald Hill Road. This street boasts colourful ancient houses with cute terraces and is a huge contrast to the skyscrapers that protrude behind them. It’s a wonderful peaceful place to walk along.

""

Next up it’s time for a bit more hustle and bustle – jump on the train to Little India. This area is mostly about wandering around its colourful, crazy streets, testing your bartering skills at the markets and finishing with a hearty Indian meal.

""

Day two

Today is all about the food. In the morning, catch the train to Chinatown and head to Ya Kun Kaya Toast for a brekkie of kaya toast (toast with coconut jam dipped in egg yolk) and kopi (the local coffee).

Next, it’s time to wander around the markets and streets of Chinatown. Stop by the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple before heading into the Chinatown Complex for some Michelin star awarded street food at Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle.

""

You’ll probably have to wait for an hour or so, but the succulent tangy chicken and/or pork is more than worth the wait.

""

Then, jump on the train to the tranquil Botanic Gardens. An expanse of exotic plants and flowers along with peaceful lakes and rotundas, it’s the perfect place to relax in the sunshine or, simply wander through and absorb its beauty.

""

In the evening, slap on some make up and head to the Gardens by the Bay – a spectacular light show where ‘super trees’ are doused in kaleidoscopic lights and uptempo music. Find a spot on the ground and lie down – this is where you’ll find the best view of the show.

Finally, enjoy your last night in Singapore at Ce La Vi, a bar at the top of the Marina Bay Sands hotel overlooking spectacular views of the city.

Grab yourself a Singapore Sling and cheers to a fabulous two days.
